Ford unveils the new 2017 Ford Fiesta
The next generation Ford Fiesta has been unveiled at a special “Go Further” event at Ford’s Cologne Niehl manufacturing facility in Germany. Ford’s European president Jim Farley and Ford’s CEO Mark Fields revealed not one but four new production variants of the next generation Ford Fiesta.
Claimed to be the world’s most technologically advanced small car, the new Fiesta takes on a more grown-up appearance. Having dropped the base models from the current Fiesta offering after the arrival of the new Ka+, the new Fiesta is being launched in four distinctive variants: the stylish Fiesta Titanium, the sporty Fiesta ST-Line, the upscale Fiesta Vignale and the Fiesta Active – the first in a line-up of Active models to be released across the Ford range.
The new Fiesta builds on the styling of the outgoing Fiesta with a sophisticated design and more transitional appearance, delivering an upscale look. The body has grown by 71mm in length and 12mm in width, providing additional cabin space and a longer and more premium appearance but without losing its ‘Fiesta-ness’. Joel Piaskowski, direction, Design, Ford of Europe explained, “We envolved the design to make it more contemporary, yet not lose the ‘Fiesta-ness’ that the customers love. The next generation Fiesta is refined, yet much more sculpted with an equally emotional appeal. Fiesta’s exterior is visually simpler, allowing us to create stronger personalities within the expanded line-up, each with distinct fascias, grilles and details that will appeal to a much broader range of customers.”
The interior is influenced by consumer’s interactions with smart devices and technology, and sees the addition of a floating high-definition touchscreen featuring Ford’s SYNC 3 communications and entertainment system. This allows drivers to control their audio, navigation and connected smartphones using simple voice commands. The Fiesta will also feature a premium Bang & Olufsen PLAY Sound System with 10 speakers, a boot-mounted subwoofer and a central mid-range speaker for an elevated audio experience.
Bringing a new level of safety to the Fiesta, a range of class-leading driver assistance features are included to enhance the comfort, convenience and safety, including the enhanced version of Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection – the Fiesta being the first Ford model this technology appears on. Further technology on the Fiesta includes Ford’s Active Park Assist with Perpendicular Parking, Traffic Sign Recognition, Adaptive Cruise Control and Auto High Beam, just to name a few.
Engines include Ford’s multi-award winning 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol engine offering 100PS, 125PS and 140PS, as well as a 1.5 litre TDCi engine offering 120PS – Fiesta’s first ever high power diesel powertrain.
