RMB sleep rough to fight poverty

the-big-teesside-sleepoutOn 18th November, four RMB employees slept rough for the night to raise money to help fight poverty within Teesside.

Taking part in The Big Teesside Sleepout, the 8th sleepout to be organised by Middlesbrough & Teesside Philanthropic Foundation, Marketing Manager Andrea Small, Digital Marketing Executive Taraha Johnson, Sales Administrator Yvonne Ruffles and RMB Renault Sales Manager Andrew Fowle, gave up their warm beds for the night to sleep on the streets of Middlesbrough.

We spoke to Sales Administrator Yvonne who explained why she decided to get involved, “Homelessness and poverty is a very close matter to me. It strikes deep down in my soul and it hurts knowing that there are people out there in our area that cannot afford essentials that most people take for granted”.

Digital Marketing Executive Taraha decided to get involved in this sleepout after kicking herself for not taking part in the last one. “I saw the Big Teesside Sleepout advertised earlier this year for the April sleepout and at the time I was interested in taking part but never got round to it for one reason or another. As soon as Mandy from the foundation sent the details out about this event my mind was made up and I knew I wouldn’t miss out on taking part in it again.

Held at Middlesbrough College, who kindly provided a location for the event, The Big Teesside Sleepout saw Team RMB spend the night sleeping outside from 8pm Friday evening to 6am Saturday morning to raise money for local food banks, homeless charities and the Salvation Army’s Christmas appeals.

With entertainment provided from Streetwise Operaaa, an award-winning charity that works with individuals who have experienced homelessness, Team RMB settled down for a night outside, thankfully having prepared themselves with layers of clothing and sleeping bags.

Yvonne who has previously supported the Salvation Army’s Christmas gift appeals as well as collecting old coats, hats and gloves to donate to the Salvation Army for the homeless, explained that she decided she wanted to do more which inspired her to get involved with the event. “Sleeping ‘rough’ for the night was just a small donation of my time really and I felt like it wasn’t enough. Therefore I have offered my services to the Middlesbrough and Teesside Philanthropic Foundation for the future.

Team RMB have been working hard to raise money and have manged to raise a staggering £913.00 in total. This helped Middlesbrough and Teesside Philanthropic Foundation raise nearly £7,000 from this latest sleepout and goes towards the £94,000 which has been raised collectively through all of The Big Teesside Sleepout events.
