Santa’s Grottos 2016: Places families can meet Santa this year

Meeting Santa (or Father Christmas if you prefer) is one of the most magical and fun parts of Christmas. So if you’re planning where to take your little ones to meet Santa this year, take a look at our list below.

We’ve rounded up details of local places where Santa will be making an appearance. And don’t forget to remind your children that if they’re really good they might even get an early Christmas present off him too!

Cleveland Centre, Middlesbrough

The famous Signing Santa returns to the Cleveland Centre for another festive season. On his own special sleigh, Signing Santa will be ready to meet thousands of children.

  • Saturday 26th November, 12pm – 3pm
  • Saturday 3rd December, 12pm – 3pm
  • Saturday 10th December, 12pm – 3pm
  • Saturday 17th December, 12pm – 3pm

Admission:  Free of charge and includes a gift. However, there will be a collection for Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice.

Lord Stones Country Park, Carlton Bank

Santa will be in his grotto at Lord Stones Country Park on the following dates in December.

  • Tuesday 13th December
  • Wednesday 14th December
  • Thursday 15th December
  • Tuesday 20th December
  • Wednesday 21st December
  • Thursday 22nd December

Admission: £8 includes ginger bread decorating, letter writing to Santa, a visit to Santa’s grotto and a present.

Centre Square, Middlesbrough

Santa’s got a brand new, bespoke grotto in Centre Square for 2016, complete with its own bubbling chimney.

  • Sunday 27th November, 11am – 5:30pm
  • Sunday 18th December, 11am – 5:30pm
  • Monday 19th December, 11am – 5:30pm
  • Tuesday 20th December, 11am – 5:30pm
  • Wednesday 21st December, 11am – 5:30pm
  • Thursday 22nd December, 11am – 5:30pm
  • Friday 23rd December, 11am – 5:30pm

Admission: £5 includes a free gift.

From the 19th to 23rd December, free Christmas Crafts will also be available as part of Santa’s Workshops. Giving children the opportunity to partake in fun, festive activities.

  • Monday 19th December: Create a Christmas puppet.
  • Tuesday 20th December: Frozen themed crafts.
  • Wednesday 21st December: Create Christmas puppets and puddings.
  • Thursday 22nd December: Make a very special Christmas bag full of goodies, including hot chocolate cone and sparkling reindeer food.

Castlegate Shopping Centre, Stockton-on-Tees

The Candy Land grotto opens on Thursday 24th November and will be open until Christmas Eve. Opening times to meet Santa are as follows:

  • Thursday 24th November, 4pm – 7pm
  • Monday to Friday, 10am – 5pm
  • Thursdays, 10am – 7pm
  • Saturdays, 10am – 6pm
  • Sundays, 10am – 4pm

Admission: £1 includes a visit to the grotto and sweets. All proceeds to be donated to Teesside Philanthropic Foundation.

Meet Santa in his traditional grotto on Victorian Street at Preston Park Museum and Grounds. Santa will be in his grotto every Saturday and Sunday from 3rd to 18th December, opening times below:

  • Saturday 3rd December, 10am – 3.30pm
  • Sunday 4th December, 10am – 3.30pm
  • Saturday 10th December, 10am – 3.30pm
  • Sunday 11th December, 10am – 3.30pm
  • Saturday 17th December, 10am – 3.30pm

Admission: £5 includes gift.

Tickets to be purchased from the museum welcome desk. Due to the expected high visitor numbers during the Bazaar weekend (3rd and 4th December), availability to visit the grotto cannot be guaranteed.

Strikes Garden Centre, Stokesley

Santa’s Big Grotto opening weekend is on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th November, where your children can enjoy a visit to Santa in his grotto.

Admission: £6

The fun starts at 11am on both days, with face painting, children’s entertainment and real reindeers.

For an extra special treat, children can enjoy breakfast or supper with Santa during the exclusive Santa Breakfast Mornings or Santa Suppers on the following dates:

Breakfast:

  • Saturday 10th December, 9.30am
  • Saturday 17th December, 9.30am
  • Friday 23rd December, 9.30am
  • Saturday 24th December, 9.30am

Admission: £9.95 per child for breakfast, includes breakfast, an enchanted story of Christmas past, letter writing to Santa, Christmas picture colouring in and a special gift.

Santa is visiting his festive grotto at Raby Castle for another year and will be available for visits from Saturday 3rd December to Friday 23rd December.
