The Roundup: Geneva Motor Show 2015

Geneva Motor Show 2015

The 85th Geneva Motor Show took place from March 5th-15th 2015, attracting huge crowds from across the globe to witness the unveiling of the latest cars and technologies to push automotive boundaries. Supercars had centre-stage, offering excellent entertainment and plenty of opportunity to view

Renowned history

Dating back to 1905, the International Geneva Motor Show is a major car show held annually in March at the Geneva Palexpo convention centre, and is renowned for showcasing new supercars. It brings together the biggest players in the automotive industry, launching the latest equipment, new partnerships and, most exciting of all, unveiling brand new models and concepts for the first time.

Mind-boggling supercars

Supercars continue to push the limits of possibility, with McLaren revealing the P1 GTR which delivers an unbelievable 1,000bhp. The Aston Martin Vulcan unveiled at the show is the most thrilling Aston ever, with a 7.0-litre V12 engine. McLaren, Ferrari and Lamborghini all showcased models pushing 200mph. In its European debut, the Ford GT (2016) impressed and earned its place in the same ranks as the likes of Ferrari.

Impressive new concepts

A surprise from Bentley, the EXP10 Speed 6 concept car revealed at the Geneva Motor Show is a sleek, luxury two-seater sports car showing the future direction for Bentley. Similarly, Aston Martin displayed its new DBX four-seat concept car – classed as a sports crossover and Aston Martin’s first all-electric car.

New high-street models

The Geneva Motor Show isn’t renowned for showing models for the ‘real world’. There were a few pleasant surprises, though. The new Ford Focus RS is fast and high-performing with 316bhp and a 2.3-litre EcoBoost turbo engine, and it will be hitting showrooms in 2016 for less than £30,000.

In other areas, Lexus revealed its new LF-SA concept – a striking supermini which would take on the likes of MINI and Audi A1. Toyota displayed its new Avenis saloon and Tourer estate range, which boasts a refreshed, stylish interior and complete overhaul of its engine range.
