Ford’s Transit range is cementing its status as Europe’s most popular commercial vehicle by expanding and renewing its class-leading lineup. The manufacturer’s latest Transit Connect van will feature innovative fuel efficiency and revolutionary technology, with a brand new 1.5-litre diesel engine thrown in.
The new 1.5-litre TDCi diesel engine will boast CO2 emissions as low as 99g/km and impressive combined fuel economy of 74.3mpg – a six percent improvement on the old 1.6-litre motor. The Transit Connect has gone to great lengths to meet the EU’s stringent emissions standards; the transit’s ECOnetic features includes Auto-Start-Stop and Active Grille Shutter technology as standard.
The multi-award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine provides a highly efficient petrol alternative. Offering 99bhp and 170Nm, the engine delivers 50.4mpg fuel efficiency and 129g/km CO2 emissions.
Sharing ground-breaking technologies with Ford’s all-new Focus and Kuga, the Transit Connect benefits from some spectacular advanced gadgetry. Driver assistance innovations include Traffic Sign Recognition and Lane Keeping Aids to give practical guidance to busy drivers. Meanwhile, the Transit Connect will be the first in Europe to feature the gesture-controlled SYNC2 system. Just by stating “I’m hungry”, the voice-activated technology and high-resolution, six-inch colour touch screen can find you the nearest restaurant.
While these impressive advancements reflect the growing demand for both efficiency and connectivity, the Transit Connect doesn’t scrimp on old-fashioned loadspace and smart looks. The popular van offers a spacious and practical load area with total volumes of 2,900 litres and 3,600 litres. Payloads of up to 1,000kg are available, matching the best-in-class figure.
The Transit Connect has proved highly popular with European customers since being introduced in 2013, with sales growing faster than any rival. With a 93 percent increase in demand for the Transit Connect compared with the same period last year, the new futuristic additions will surely prove a success for Ford in the years ahead.
